My Favorite Poem

Where the Sidewalk Ends
From the book “Where the Sidewalk Ends” (1974)

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
and before the street begins,
and there the grass grows soft and white,
and there the sun burns crimson bright,
and there the moon-bird rests from his flight
to cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
and the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
we shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow
and watch where the chalk-white arrows go
to the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
and we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
for the children, they mark, and the children, they know,
the place where the sidewalk ends.

This is one of the first poems that I remember reading. I read it a Barton Creek Elementary. I love all the creative imagery that Shel puts in his writing.

The Country Bears

It was my one of my favorite— no my most favorite thing to do. The Disney move, “The Country Bears” made me plain happy.
There was no sitting down when I watched this movie. I stood on the coffee table and DANCED! I loved dancing to those silly bears country music. I would always slip on my socks, fall on my but, and drop head first onto our carpet. As I’m writing this post, I’m looking at that same table sitting right across from me and the memories are just flooding in.
I love country music, and now that I think about it, I think I learned to love country music from the Country Bears. These bears sang good ‘ole river dancin country music. Banjo and all— I definitely learned to love country music from them.

Why I love Austin

Wether it’s a day at Zilker Park, or going to see the Longhorns at DKR, there is so many fun things to do in Austin. This is why I love Austin.
There’s nothing like the cool water of Barton Springs in the Hot summer. Diving into that Spring and literally feeling your goose bumps pop out of your skin. The warm sun feels just right on your skin. Also, just a short walk away from the spring is Zilker Park. There won’t be one day in 365 that you will not see a game of Ultimate Frisbee going on at Zilker. It’s definitely the hot spot to go when you go to Austin.
There is only one day in the week that people don’t think about going to Zilker or Barton Springs though. Saturday, and there is nothing bigger in Austin than some good ole Longhorn Football. Everybody flocks to Darrel K. Royal for the game. You’re without a doubt going to see a friend at the game, and make a friend. Even if you’re not going to the game tailgating is something you have to do.
I haven’t got to everything there is in Austin, and even if I wrote a 10 page essay I don’t think I could. You can’t ever have nothing to do in this great city. So now you know why I love Austin, and I know what thought is creeping into the back of your mind…

I should go to AUSTIN
